The purpose of this study is to draw the causes for Korean Taekwondo’s failure in winning a gold medal in the Olympics, and also to seek for the practical solution measures. This study conducted in-depth interviews by selecting six coaches and athletes with experiences in entering the Olympics as research participants through the purposive sampling method, and the conclusions drawn based on their experiential grounds are as follows. In the causes for Korea’s failure in winning a gold medal, first, it was lacking in overseas exchange and information for rookie athletes. Second, it was shown as the upward standardization of athletic performance. Third, the method of operating the national team was raised as a problem. As the measures for solving those problems, first, it would be necessary to exchange the training methods with overseas teams. Second, the training environment for developing creativity should be established. Third, the systematic long/short-term investment for both athletes and coaches is required. Based on the measures presented by this study, the follow-up researches should carry out the measures or develop more detailed guideline that can be applied in the field, which could be led to retrieving honor of the past.
